The theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer derives from Ephesians 4:3 which says, “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
Unity is the key theme that has been chosen to focus on in prayer for America this year. If you take a look around, turn on the news, or look at social media, it is easy to see why this is the perfect prayer request for our country.
However, we are not the first generation to struggle to keep peace and unity. Since the fall of man, we have been a people bent in such a way that division just comes naturally. But thanks to Jesus, we can be restored in Him to be a people who reflect His heart of peace!
Even so, it does not come easy. Ironically enough, in order to keep peace and create unity, we have to actively fight for it. As people of God, He is calling us to be people of peace who make every effort to keep unity with one another in His Spirit. Today, let us make a commitment to fight in prayer for our country to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace we have been given.
Pray for your own heart to prioritize unity in your life and relationships.
Pray for the Church to set the example as people of peace.
Pray for our leaders to guide us as one people united under God.
Pray for God to raise up people who fight for peace through prayer.
